The BSC Talking Clock program requires Microsoft Text to Speech to be installed on your computer and DirectX version 8.0 or higher. If you are running Windows xp, you already have these files on your computer and there is no need to download them. If you are not running Windows xp, you can download free copies of these files via the below links. If you are on dialup access and don't want to download the additional files, you can order the bsc demo cd. It has the talking clock setup file and the additional setup files on it. You then can install the files from the CD.
Note: if you need a different language version of DirectX, please visit the DirectX web site where you can download a free copy of DirectX specific to your region.
The Microsoft Text to Speech file will install three voices: Mike, Mary, and Sam. Once you install the Microsoft Text to Speech file, and the DirectX 8.1 file, the program will work perfectly.
We are also an affiliate for Cepstral which is a company that specializes in creating SAPI 5 voices. These voices sound good and are additional voices that you can purchase to use with our Talking Clock program or any SAPI 5 or higher application. To hear a demo of the cepstral voices, please visit our Cepstral voice demo page which lets you hear all the cepstral voices.
If you have any questions about these additional files, please email us at support@blindsoftware.com.
