This program will run on the following platforms: Windows 98/Me/NT 4/2000/XP. You must have Microsoft Text to Speech version 5.1 and DirectX version 8.0 or higher installed on your computer. If you are running Windows XP or higher, you already have these files so there is no need to download them. Please refer to this page for download links to the additional files. If you are on dialup access and don't want to download the additional files, you can order the bsc demo cd. It has the talking clock setup file and the additional setup files on it. You then can install the files from the CD.
The BSC Talking Clock and Reminder program is just like having your talking wristwatch on your computer. The time can be spoken to you at the top of the hour, quarter past the hour, half hour, quarter til the hour, both half hour and hour, or off. In addition to speaking the time to you, the program can play chimes to you, meaning sound effects, at various times as well.
TC comes with 15 default chimes to choose from such as acoustic guitar, bird, chimes, cuckoo clock, dog, flute, little droid, rooster, whistle, and more. In addition to having 15 default chimes, you can add your own chimes (sound effects) for the program to use. TC supports playing mp3 files, wav files, and wma files. Add as many sound files to the chimes list as you want… it's your choice!
TC is more than just a talking clock program though. It has an atomic clock sync system built into it for keeping your computer date/time current. The program also has a "big ben" mode where it can play the world famous big ben chimes and bell being rung at the top of each hour. You have to hear just how realistic the big ben chimes and bell sound. TC also can act like a cuckoo clock and chime at the top of each hour x times based on the hour and at the half hour mark simulating a real cuckoo clock's behavior.
TC also has a reminder system that lets you save an unlimited number of reminders. It lets you type the text for a reminder and then lets you set the date and time the reminder should appear. When the reminder appears, you can either accept it or snooze it (resetting the date/time for it to appear again). In addition to this, the reminder system also lets you set an optional sound to play for each reminder when it appears on the screen. Whatever sounds are in your chimes list (sound effects), you can use any of those sounds to attach to a reminder.
So you have a football game to attend on Monday? Set a reminder for Monday and attach a crowd cheer to it to remind you of the game. So the dog has a vet appointment on Friday? Set a reminder to appear on Friday and have a dog sound bark at you. Need to wake up at 7:30 am for school? Set tc to show a reminder at 7:30 am and wake up to your favorite mp3 song.
Another beneficial feature of the reminder system is the program can automatically read reminders. If auto read reminders is checked, when a reminder appears on the screen, it will be automatically read to you by the program.
If you are looking for more voices for our talking clock program, blindsoftware.com is now an affiliate for Cepstral and we are now offering the Cepstral voices. In our opinion, these voices have a good quality and are human sounding.
You have to hear them for yourself. You can demo any of the Cepstral voices on our website at this link: hear a live demo of the Cepstral voices.
